Couple of Announcements
1. Blogger.com changed the comments system so it is now much easier to leave a comment!
2. In spite of the fact that I feel like I'm spying on people by reading their blogs when they don't know about it, I have added some links to my favorite blogs over there on the right. My cover is up.
On to business…
Normally I don't like to do this but my weekend was just too…dramatic…to not tell you about it. First, a little background. Since Josh and I are at different schools right now, the only chance we have to see each other is on weekends. We go back and forth; I visit him, the next weekend he comes and visits me.
The last time I visited him, I got food poisoning, and we both ended up staying awake the whole night - I was sick, and he was holding up the trash can for me. This was the first time anyone has seen me throw up except for my parents. It was a defining moment in our relationship.
This weekend, as I was visiting Josh again, he got me back in a big way for making him stay awake all night. Josh's club at school, Frater Sodalis, had their annual Sweetheart Social Saturday night. I arrived in town Saturday afternoon with my make-up done and my hair curled. The only thing left to do was put on my dress and go. We were already running late, so around 7 o'clock when Josh's lower-right back started to hurt, I tried to solve the problem quickly. He said it was a sharp pain, extreme cramping, and random spasming. After about 10 minutes of intense pain, I put a warm washcloth on the sore area. This was the last straw.
"I need to go to the ER," Josh said. The poor guy, he was obviously in a lot of pain. By the time we arrived at the hospital, he was pale and nauseated and about to pass out. We quickly checked in, and the hospital staff immediately got a wheelchair and wheeled Josh into a room. Within five minutes, his nurse, Dee, gave her unofficial diagnosis: kidney stones.
An x-ray, a CAT scan, 5 hours, and three doses of morphine later, the doctor confirmed Dee's diagnosis. After one final done of pain medication, he was discharged, and we left the hospital.
Even drugged up, Josh can think quick on his feet. We needed to fill a prescription quickly because his pain medicine was wearing off but the 24-hour pharmacy said it would take at least an hour to fill it. As I relayed that information to Josh who was waiting outside in the car, I almost started crying out of frustration but he said I should go back inside the drugstore and ask if they could bump it up. I collected myself and explained what our situation was to the pharmacist. Ten minutes later, I was driving Josh back to his house with the newly filled prescription.
So I stayed awake all night, taking care of him like he did for me. No, I didn't have to hold up any trash cans but I did get to hold his hand while he was lying in the hospital bed. My make-up was smudged and my curls were flat and we didn't go to the Sweetheart Social like we had planned. But we were together, and I'd rather be laughing about giving birth to a kidney stone with him than alone.
